Exhibition spotlighting French Encyclopaedia as part of European Heritage Days 2023
On 26 September 2023, the National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK) hosted the opening of Encyclopédie: le savoir en heritage, an exhibition which the Library organised in cooperation with the French Institute in Croatia as part of this year’s European Heritage Days.
Manuscript from the collections of the National Library of Bulgaria included in the UNESCO “Memory of the World” register
A 16th-century transcript of “Masnavi-ye-Ma’navi”, the only known copy of the poet’s work at the National Library of Bulgaria, has been added to the UNESCO “Memory of the World” register. The manuscript is the work of the renowned Persian philosopher, mystic, spiritual leader, and poet Jalal al-Din Muhammad Balkhi, also known as Rumi.
Exhibition “Vladimir and Kosara in History, Legend and Art”
On September 26, an exhibition of books and periodicals “Vladimir and Kosara in history, legends and art”, whose authors are Milenija Vračar, consultant librarian, and Iva Vujović, librarian was opened in the National Library of Montenegro within the European Heritage Days.
Conferences cycle at the BnF: “Ukraine: affirmation and recognition of a nation”
Dedicated to Ukrainian history and great figures, the BnF is hosting conferences and seminars on different topics ranging from: boarder disputes or the intelligentsia in the twenties to the famous novel “Maroussia”.
2023 Hidden Stories grantees announced
The “Hidden Stories Fund” is a temporary fund to support CENL members who have new projects to collect, preserve, research and highlight the stories from, by and related to underrepresented communities in their national collections. In its meeting in September, the CENL Executive Committee reviewed all of the submissions and awarded three grants.

The German Exile Archive 1933–1945 has been cooperating closely with eyewitnesses Kurt S. Maier and Inge Auerbacher to create digital interactive interviews that explore their experiences of anti-Semitic persecution and exile after 1933. The interviews are accompanied by an exhibition.
Laurence Engel welcomes Queen Camilla and the French First Lady at the BnF
President of the BnF Laurence Engel welcomed her Majesty the Queen Camilla and the French First Lady Brigitte Macron on the 21rst of September on the Richelieu site. The visit was held in presence of various British and French representatives.
Automatic subject indexing tool Annif ready for wider production use
Annif is an automated description tool developed at the National Library of Finland and used by many organisations internationally. With the now released version Annif 1.0, the software is ready for wider production use.
30th anniversary of National Library of Estonia building
This year the National Library of Estonia celebrated the 30th anniversary of its building. The construction of the building that had begun in 1985 and gone through many obstacles, was finally completed in 1993.
