The National Library of Albania is pleased to announce the relaunch of BIBLIOTHECAE, its scholarly journal, originally published between 2000 and 2010. Returning after an interruption of more than a decade, the journal now begins a new series. Researchers in library and information science, cultural heritage and other relevant disciplines are invited to submit papers for its inaugural issue.

CONTINUING A TRADITION

The return of BIBLIOTHECAE marks the continuation of an important publishing tradition of the National Library of Albania and reaffirms its mission as the country’s national institution dedicated to preserving documentary memory, advancing scholarly research and promoting book culture. Building upon this legacy, the journal re-emerges as a contemporary academic forum devoted to the study of libraries, books, bibliography, information and written heritage.

Conceived as an annual scholarly publication, BIBLIOTHECAE welcomes original studies, research articles, and theoretical and practice-based analyses that contribute to the advancement of library and information science and related disciplines. The journal provides a sustainable forum for scholarly dialogue and professional exchange among researchers and practitioners at both national and international levels.

SCOPE OF THE JOURNAL

1. The journal welcomes scholarly contributions in areas including, but not limited to:

3. The history of libraries and book culture;
4. Bibliography, national bibliography and bibliographic control;
5. Cataloguing, classification, bibliographic standards and metadata;
6. Library collections, rare books, manuscripts, special collections and historical collections;
7. Documentary heritage, cultural memory and written heritage;
8. Conservation, restoration, long-term preservation and digitalisation of library materials;
9. The history of publishing, the Albanian press and typography;
10. Libraries in the digital age, digital transformation and artificial intelligence in library services;
11. The promotion, interpretation and valorisation of library heritage and the material culture of the book;
12. Library exhibitions, heritage education, cultural communication and the mediation of collections;
13. Studies of reading, reading culture and society’s relationship with books;
14. Interdisciplinary studies of books, libraries, archives, museums and cultural heritage;
15. Other topics related to libraries, information, archival studies, books and cultural heritage.

ELIGIBILITY

Researchers, librarians, archivists, university lecturers, doctoral candidates, conservators and restorers, museum professionals, and other specialists whose research relates to the journal’s scope are invited to submit their work.

Submissions must be original, previously unpublished, and not under consideration for publication by another journal. All manuscripts will undergo scholarly peer review in accordance with the journal’s editorial and ethical standards.

Coinciding with the anniversary of the establishment of the National Library of Albania, the return of BIBLIOTHECAE represents not only the continuation of a publishing tradition but also an institutional commitment to strengthening scholarly research in library and information science and in the study of Albania’s documentary heritage, in dialogue with contemporary international developments.

Papers that successfully complete the peer-review process and receive the approval of the Editorial Board will be published in the scholarly journal BIBLIOTHECAE (ISSN). Authors will be notified of the outcome of the review process via the email address provided upon submission.
