25 October 2025 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Johann Strauss II. A superstar even during his lifetime, he lived a life within fluid boundaries: night became day, the private became public, his job became his purpose in life. He was driven by an indefatigable passion, a passion made tangible by the small but exquisite display in the State Hall comprising of remarkable objects from the holdings of the Austrian National Library. Originals, sketches, and drafts testify to his energy as a composer, while letters and photos provide insights into his personal connections.
