The Presentation Ceremony of the Book “Nakhchivan. Bibliography” at the National Library of Azerbaijan

On 3 July 2025, in accordance with the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, the presentation ceremony of the book “Nakhchivan. Bibliography”, jointly published by the Ministry of Culture and the National Library, was held at the National Library.

Opening the event, the Director of the National Library, Professor Karim Tahirov, emphasized Nakhchivan’s important place in the centuries-old history of Azerbaijan and its unique role in the country’s socio-political, scientific, and cultural life. He noted that this bibliography, dedicated to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic—a vital part of Azerbaijan that has produced numerous prominent figures in science, culture, and literature—is the first comprehensive bibliographic resource about this ancient region. He also informed the participants that the book was published in accordance with the relevant presidential decree.

Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Farid Jafarov, described the compilation of this bibliographic book dedicated to Nakhchivan as a historic event and congratulated the attendees on this occasion. He emphasized that Nakhchivan, an inseparable part of Azerbaijan, continues to uphold its historic traditions and the bright ideas of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, and is one of the regions where President Ilham Aliyev is successfully implementing the national leader’s policies. He stressed that this publication, which covers a 100-year period and includes over 10,000 sources, will serve as a valuable scientific resource for anyone researching the history and culture of both Nakhchivan and Azerbaijan. He also congratulated the National Library’s staff on this significant achievement.

The President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, academician Isa Habibbayli, stated that this bibliographic chronicle on Nakhchivan is a substantial contribution prepared by the Ministry of Culture and the National Library in response to the Presidential Decree, dated 30 December 30 2023, regarding the centennial celebration of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. He noted that this bibliography meets international standards, is comprehensive, professionally compiled, and should be considered a valuable gift to Azerbaijani science and culture. He particularly emphasized that this is the most extensive and significant bibliography ever published by the National Library.

At the event, various speakers—including Bakhtiyar Asgarov, Head of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic’s Representation in Baku; Fazil Mustafa, Member of Parliament; Vugar Rahimzade, MP and Honored Journalist; Nizami Jafarov, academician and Director of the Ataturk Center in Azerbaijan; Rashad Majid, Chairman of the Press Council and Deputy Chairman of the Writers’ Union; Asif Asgarov, MP; Mukhtar Naghiyev, Chairman of the Sabail District Organization of the New Azerbaijan Party; Afat Abbasova, Director of the Presidential Library under the Presidential Administration; Mahira Huseynova, Vice-Rector of Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University; Nadir Ismayilov, Head of the Department of Information and Document Management at Baku State University and others—spoke about the historical role of Nakhchivan in Azerbaijan’s statehood and in preserving national identity. They also highlighted the scientific and moral value of this first-of-its-kind bibliography, “Nakhchivan. Bibliography”, describing it as a memorable and exceptional event in the intellectual and cultural history of Azerbaijan.

Following the speeches, the National Library presented the electronic database titled “Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic”, prepared by its staff.

It should be noted that this is the first fundamental bibliography prepared in connection with the 100th anniversary of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. The publication includes a vast collection of materials—books, periodical articles, textbooks, and compilations—covering a broad range of topics such as the history, economy, agriculture, natural resources, socio-political environment, education and healthcare, culture, literature, and more.
