The National Library of Greece participates as National Library Node in ICCROM’s “Our Collections Matter” programme

“Our Collections Matter” is an initiative launched by the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) in 2020, to harness the power and potential of cultural institutions’ collections to promote sustainable development. Greece participates in this programme through two National Nodes, the National Library of Greece (NLG) and the Ministry of Culture, in order to represent Libraries and Museums respectively.

The Director General of the NLG, Dr Chrysa Nikolaou, states: “We are honoured to be part of this programme along with the Hellenic Ministry of Culture. Our participation reflects our belief that library collections can make a dynamic contribution to sustainable development.”

As part of this three-year programme, the NLG will act as the National Node for the country’s public libraries, supporting them in adopting the UN Sustainable Development Goals in their work and policies. Through the tools offered by the programme and a series of events, such as knowledge-sharing workshops and collaborative initiatives, the NLG will work closely with ICCROM and the Hellenic Ministry of Culture to strengthen the impact of cultural collections in creating a more equitable, inclusive and sustainable future.
