Executing Peace. Luxembourgish Perspectives on Peace: A New Exhibition at the National Library of Luxembourg (BnL)

This exhibition offers, for the first time, a comprehensive exploration of the history of peace concepts, policies and movements in Luxembourg, from the French Revolution to the present day. Drawing on the contributions of researchers, artists and peace activists, it highlights the diversity of understandings of peace and the wide range of motivations that have inspired engagement in its pursuit, a diversity that remains highly relevant today.

Bringing together personal testimonies, documents from public and private archives, and materials from the collections of numerous associations that have, over the past six decades, advocated alternative visions of society and political life, alongside official records produced by diplomats and political decision-makers, the exhibition approaches the subject of peace from both grassroots and institutional perspectives. Executing Peace presents a plurality of viewpoints on aspirations for peace, examining the dynamic interplay between utopian ideals and practical action.

The exhibition will be on view at the National Library of Luxembourg from 3 October 2026 to 30 October 2027.
Accompanying the exhibition, a catalogue presents 60 contributions from researchers and other contributors, offering further perspectives on the history, concepts and practices of peace in Luxembourg.
