On 21 October 2025, the National Library of the Republic of Moldova inaugurated the “Mihai Eminescu” Hall – a modern, multifunctional space dedicated to culture, art, education, and intellectual dialogue. The modernisation project was financed by the Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova (DRRM), under the Government of Romania, and implemented by the National Library of the Republic of Moldova.

The inaugural event was held in the presence of Mr Andrei Chistol, State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova; Mr Constantin-Valentin Raducanu, General Director acting as State Secretary of DRRM; H.E. Cristian Leon Turcanu, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Chisinau; Ms Monica Babuc, Director of the Romanian Cultural Institute “Mihai Eminescu” in Chisinau; as well as researchers, writers, librarians, and cultural figures. The event was moderated by Mrs Elena Pintilei, General Director of the National Library of the Republic of Moldova.

During the inauguration, visitors had the opportunity to admire a calligraphy exhibition dedicated to the works of Mihai Eminescu, created by artist Valeriu Herta, along with the visual artwork “La Steaua” by visual artist Didica Vasile – creations that enriched the cultural ambiance of the event and paid visual tribute to the great poet.

The atmosphere was further enhanced by musical performances by Veronica Valuta-Bantas, Diana Valuta, and Ilie Valuta, who offered the audience moments of artistic refinement and emotional depth.

Through this project, the National Library provides the public with a contemporary cultural space, adapted to current needs and fully equipped to host conferences, exhibitions, book launches, and other major cultural events. The “Mihai Eminescu” Hall features interactive digital systems, modern multimedia equipment, exhibition showcases, and high-performance acoustic systems, all designed to create an optimal environment for cultural and educational activities in traditional, hybrid, or online formats.

“With the completion of this project, we are celebrating the revitalisation of a space that has, over time, welcomed some of the most prominent figures of Romanian culture, such as Grigore Vieru and Nicolae Dabija. We envision this hall not only as a place of memory, but also as a modern environment where librarians can come together to learn and grow. It is a true centre for culture and knowledge-sharing—one whose rehabilitation would not have been possible without the invaluable support of our partners,” said Mrs Elena Pintilei, General Director of the National Library of the Republic of Moldova.

This new space becomes a hub for cultural and intellectual communication, strengthening the role of the National Library and contributing to the European integration of the Republic of Moldova through strategic collaboration in the fields of culture, education, and science.
The National Library of the Republic of Moldova expresses its sincere gratitude to the Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova (DRRM) – https://www.facebook.com/drrmromania – for their continued support and commitment to the development and promotion of cultural and educational ties between Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
