After five years of extensive restoration work, the only feature film produced in Liechtenstein with a star-studded cast from 1958 is now available in a fully reconstructed 4K version. The work was carried out on behalf of Swiss Radio and Television (SRF) by various specialist companies in Switzerland.

‘Kinder der Berge’ (Children of the Mountains), popularly known as ‘Ludmila’, is a valuable historical document from 1958 and an important piece of Liechtenstein film history. Its creation is inextricably linked to the writer Paul Gallico (1897–1976) and Baron Edu-ard von Falz-Fein (1912–2018). The screenplay for ‘Children of the Mountains’ is based on Gallico’s novella ‘Ludmila. A Legend of Liechtenstein’ from 1954. Baron von Falz-Fein was the driving force behind the entire film project. The film crew kept the country on its toes for ten weeks in 1958. People still talk about it today.
Now, for the first time, the film can be presented again in its original quality in 4K format. To mark the premiere at the Altes Kino Vaduz, the National Library is publishing a brochure. It presents the film project, its historical significance and the background to its restoration. The brochure was written by Heinz Schweizer (Swiss Television) and Beat Vogt, Ronnie Vogt and Daniel Quaderer from the National Library of Liechtenstein.
