Dr Tomasz Makowski became Chair of the CDNL and led his first meeting on 17 November 2025

Tomasz Makowski, Director of the National Library of Poland, has become the new Chair of the CDNL  (Conference of Directors of National Libraries).  The formal handover of the title took place on 16 November at the National Library in Warsaw, in the presence of representatives of the cultural sector, diplomacy, and public institutions.

At the ceremony, the speakers were: Frank Scholze CENL Chair and Generaldirektor Deutsche Nationalbibliothek, Dr Marie-Louise Ayres Former CDNL Chair and Director-General National Library of Australia, Leslie Weir IFLA President and Bibliothécaire et archiviste du Canada Librarian and Archivist of Canada. On behalf of Polish librarians, the floor was taken by the Chair of the Conference of Directors of Public Libraries Małgorzata Grupińska-Bis. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Henryka Moscicka-Dendys also took the floor.

The following day, Makowski chaired the first meeting of the CDNL.
