On 1 August 2025, the Minister of Culture of the Slovak Republic appointed Eva Augustínová, PhD. as the new Director General of the Slovak National Library.
Dr Augustínová graduated from Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest (1981–1986), where she studied Hungarian language and library science. From August 1986 until December 2012, she worked at the Slovak National Library, serving from 2000 as a researcher and later as Director of the Department for the History of Book Culture.
At the end of 2012, she joined the University of Žilina, where she continued her research into the history of book culture and the presentation of cultural heritage. Later she became Head of the Department of Mediamatics and Cultural Heritage, and from 2019 to 2024 served as Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Humanities for Education and Marketing.
In October 2024, she returned to the Slovak National Library.
Dr Augustínová actively publishes in Slovak, English, and Hungarian. Her book Bibliography of Regionally Slovak Prints of the 18th Century, published by the Slovak National Library in 2008, was awarded the Prize of the Slovak Historical Society and the Literary Fund Award for Scientific Literature. She is also the Editor-in-Chief of the peer-reviewed journal mkd revue.
