To mark the 250th anniversary of American independence, the BnF joins the America 2026 research programme for a four-part portrait series exploring shared revolutionary history: Franklin, Jefferson, La Fayette and Beaumarchais. Two Frenchmen who fought alongside the American insurgents, and two Americans who carried the ideals of the revolution back to France.
For more information on this cross-perspective, they invite you to discover the France in the Americas website, part of the Shared Heritage collection, which traces centuries of exchange between France and the continent—from exploration and trade to political ideas and cultural ties.
A journey through a shared revolutionary past via 4 conferences from 29th September to 24th November 2026, at the BnF and online: https://www.bnf.fr/fr/agenda/revolutions-croisees-regards-sur-la-france-et-les-etats-unis-1776-1803
