The National Library of Armenia has opened a new Assistive Technology Reading Hall, expanding its services for users who require accessible formats and assistive technologies.

The new reading hall was established in accordance with the will of Armenian-
American librarian Dziadzan (Gia) Aivazian, with the aim of expanding access to
library services and creating a modern, comfortable and inclusive environment.

The space is intended for users who need accessible formats, including people with visual impairments, reading disabilities and other accessibility needs.

The Assistive Technology Reading Hall provides access to audiobooks, Braille and other accessible-format publications, as well as adaptive equipment and assistive technologies. Users can explore the available resources, try out the equipment and access literature in formats that meet their needs.

The Assistive Technology Reading Hall builds on the National Library of
Armenia’s ongoing work to improve access to information and literature for users
with print disabilities. The library has also introduced an on-demand service for
converting printed materials into accessible formats in response to specific user
needs, with particular attention to less commonly available resources, including
non-fiction, educational materials and academic literature.

The new reading hall forms part of the National Library of Armenia’s broader
efforts to modernise its services and expand access to literature, information and
knowledge. It marks a further step towards creating a more inclusive and accessible library environment for all users.
