A strong signal for education, culture and the future – Vaduz says yes

The Foundation Board and the staff of the Liechtenstein National Library are delighted with today’s positive voting result. The people of Vaduz voted in favour of the support contribution of 5.43 million Swiss francs by two thirds of the votes, thereby sending a strong and forward-looking signal. Not only did they vote in favour of the ‘New Liechtenstein National Library’, they also invested in the educational, cultural and meeting place of tomorrow.

Library Director Daniel Quaderer comments: “We would like to thank the citizens for their great trust in the “New Liechtenstein National Library” project and assure them that we will fulfil the responsibility entrusted to us. In particular, we would like to thank the specially formed advocacy group, the many people who actively campaigned for and supported the project and our employees.”

This yes vote is an important milestone for Vaduz, for the country and for future generations. The new national library will bring together 230,000 media in one place and serve as a learning space, a centre for books and media and an open meeting place for everyone. The National Library of Liechtenstein is delighted that the municipality of Vaduz will have a cultural and educational beacon at its centre and will be able to actively shape its future development.

“Today’s positive result is a major step and we are therefore delighted. Nevertheless, we are also aware that the government will also present this solution, which is backed by the municipality of Vaduz and private supporters, to Parliament. However, we are convinced that the strong vote from Vaduz is a positive signal for the upcoming decisions,” says Pascal Seger, President of the Foundation Board. If all goes well, the library in Vaduz could open in autumn 2028.
