Restitution to the heirs of Heinrich Glanz

In June 2024, the German National Library was able to return a book belonging to Viennese publisher Heinrich Glanz to his heirs.
Heinrich Glanz came from a Jewish family. After the annexation of Austria, his bookshop and publishing company were closed by order of the Gestapo, who also confiscated the books stored there. One volume containing a dedication to Heinrich Glanz found its way to the collection of the Deutsche Bücherei (today: the German National Library) via the “Bücherverwertungsstelle” (book collection and distribution centre).
Thanks to this dedication, Glanz was identified as the previous owner and the book restored to his heirs.
