As part of the “George Enescu” International Festival, one of the most prestigious classical music events in the world, the National Library of Romania organised the exhibition “The Score of a Life: George Enescu in Rare Documents”.

The exhibition was a heartfelt tribute paid by the National Library to the legendary George Enescu, a world-renowned figure who brought Romanian classical music to some of the greatest concert halls around the world.
Visitors were invited to explore a carefully curated selection of rare materials, including original scores, handwritten manuscripts, and archival photographs. Among the highlights was the piano reduction of Enescu’s opera Œdipe, featuring a personal dedication to conductor Alfred Alessandrescu.

The exhibition also offered an intimate glimpse into the composer’s personal life through previously unseen letters and images. To enrich the experience, the exhibition space resonated with archival recordings of Enescu’s music — works he composed, conducted, or performed himself.
