In collaboration with the National and University Library of Slovenia (NUK), Cankarjev dom presents COSMOS KOSOVEL, a major exhibition marking the centenary of the death of avant-garde poet Srečko Kosovel.

Rather than portraying Kosovel as a distant literary monument, the exhibition presents him as a remarkably contemporary thinker, artist, and visionary, exploring why his work feels anything but outdated today – and why, instead, it resonates with an almost unsettling relevance.

The exhibition highlights the relevance of Kosovel’s thought and poetry, which continue to resonate with new generations of readers. Visitors will gain insight into valuable original material from the poet’s legacy – manuscripts of poems, diaries, letters, photographs, school notebooks, editorial materials and the first publications of his texts. The display also includes selected artworks and manifestos from Slovenian and international collections, shedding light on the broader artistic and historical context of the interwar period.

The exhibition introduces younger audiences and their parents to Kosovel as a poet whose work transcended his own time, as well as an artist who remains an important contemporary voice in Slovenian and European culture.

Curated by Marijan Rupert, M.A.—Head of the Manuscript Collection and National Literary Archives at NUK—with spatial design conceived by students from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (ALUO) at the University of Ljubljana, the exhibition is on display in the Cankarjev dom Gallery until 9 May 2027.
