Some children have to spend part of the summer in the city. To fill their time, the National Library of Estonia and the National Archives are organising a city camp for children. This creative and educational summer camp welcomes curious children aged 7–12 to take part in a programme introducing memory institutions from 15 to 17 June.
The children will learn about the National Library and the National Archives and discover the building where both institutions work, they will visit a number of museums, the Town Hall and the building of the Riigikogu (Parliament). The camp group will explore the Old Town of Tallinn – Toompea Hill and the Lower Town, visit Kalamaja – a historic yet trendy seaside neighbourhood in Tallinn, and go to the Estonian Children’s Literature Centre.
The camp group will play games, make crafts, tell and listen to stories, and take part in a workshop where children can create their own garden corner on paper. Movement and physical activity will play an important role, guided by Olympic champion and Member of the Riigikogu (Parliament) Kristina Šmigun-Vähi.
In short, the camp offers children a meaningful, creative and fun way to discover the city while also learning more about Estonia’s memory institutions.
