Empowering the Network: Lithuania Launches a Unified Digital Hub for Library Professionals

The Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania has officially launched the Library Specialist’s Space, a strategic online platform based on the “one-stop shop” principle, designed to consolidate the country’s library community and systematise professional knowledge.

Synergy between regional experience and international trends

In performing its functions as a national methodology centre, the National Library has identified a growing need for a centralized and reliable source of professional information. This new digital centre integrates:

  • Systematised professional news: timely information about national initiatives and global trends in the development of the library sector.
  • Methodological competence: a comprehensive database of research results, methodological guidelines, and best practice recommendations.
  • Continuing professional development: a structured calendar of qualification improvement opportunities and methodological training materials.
  • Community empowerment: this is not just a channel for disseminating information. It is a space where libraries themselves become content creators, sharing their success stories and research.

This initiative demonstrates Lithuania’s readiness to modernise the library sector, transforming it into a dynamic, continuously learning, and technologically advanced community.

A collaboration-based ecosystem

“This is not just a repository of information – it is a dynamic environment for professional exchange”, emphasise specialists at the National Library. The platform transforms traditional one-way communication into an interactive model, encouraging Lithuanian libraries to actively share their achievements, webcasts, and audio-visual content. From digital literacy strategies to the presentation of successful local projects, this space fosters a culture of institutional transparency and mutual professional growth.

Future prospects

The implementation of the platform is the first stage in the implementation of a broader digital strategy. Planned updates include the integration of advanced interactive tools and artificial intelligence-based search systems. At the international level, this project can be presented as a model demonstrating the role of national libraries and acting as a digital catalyst for promoting professionalism across the sector.
