Discussing Libraries’ Emergency preparedness and response at IFLA

Gathering professionals from 11 countries including 3 CENL Members (National libraries of France, Finland and Slovenia), a two-day satellite conference on “Strengthening libraries emergency preparedness and response” organised by the IFLA Section Preservation and Conservation was held in Amsterdam on 17 and 18 August. It focused on feedbacks from institutions that had to respond to conflicts, terrorist attacks or severe flooding.  Recent actions were presented by colleagues from Ukraine, Mali and Belgium. The International Alliance for Heritage Protection in Conflict Zones (ALIPH) also outlined their actions to safeguard the written heritage, and the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) presented its flagship initiative on First Aid to Cultural Heritage in Times of Crisis.
