The German National Library, the TIB Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology, University Library and the German Publishers and Booksellers Association (Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels) have engaged in a constructive dialogue regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) systems, resulting in the adoption of a common statement on the matter.
The focus was on the responsible, transparent, legally permissible and ethically sound use of AI. It is important to the participating libraries that everyday library work (such as cataloguing works) in particular can be supported in a modern and efficient way with AI tools in the sense of “machine utility“, enabling them to fulfil their core mission.
