On the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the burning of the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina (NUBBiH), on 25 August 1992, one of the most serious losses of cultural and historical treasures during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, tributes were paid to the killed colleagues of the NUBBiH: Adela Leota, Aida Buturović, Mirko Azinović and Ante-Slavko Kovačić.
They were killed because they went to work and did not give up the fight for their state library either during or after the burning of its headquarters. A tribute was paid to their lives, work and contribution to the preservation of knowledge and the cultural and historical heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
At the same time, the citizens’ “Petition for the return of the National Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the City Hall and a permanent solution to its financing” was submitted to the Sarajevo City Administration.
The petition with the text of the request, the list of signatories and comments from citizens was also submitted to the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Attorney General’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Office of the High Representative (OHR).
The goal is to directly deliver the request to the competent institutions and draw attention to the need for an urgent and permanent solution to the status of the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
