A Heartfelt Celebration of Tradition and Authentic Values at the National Library of the Republic of Moldova

On 24 June 2026, the National Library of the Republic of Moldova hosted a special cultural event featuring the ethnographic folklore ensemble Moștenitorii (“The Heirs”), celebrating traditional folk music, cultural heritage, and the enduring values of Romanian folklore. The event was part of the celebrations marking the National Day of Folk Costume.

Moștenitorii is a well-established artistic ensemble from Chișinău, led by the teacher of music Valeriu Chiper and based at the Mihail Sadoveanu Theoretical High School. For 25 years, the ensemble has been dedicated to preserving, promoting, and passing on the authentic values of Romanian folk traditions to younger generations.

The audience enjoyed a rich repertoire of traditional songs collected primarily from villages in southern part of the country, including Câșlița-Prut, Slobozia Mare, Văleni, Gotești, Brânza, Larga, Reni, and others. Through years of dedicated research and artistic interpretation, the ensemble has revived and brought new life to this valuable musical heritage.

The public had the possibility to admire a small exhibition of national costumes from the collection of Valeriu Chiperi and consult the book “Popular creations from the repertoire of the ethno-folkloric ensemble “The Heirs”.

Through music, traditional costumes, and customs, Moștenitorii continues to safeguard the cultural memory of local communities, building a meaningful bridge between the past, the present, and the future.

The National Library of the Republic of Moldova remains a vibrant venue for cultural encounters, dialogue, and the promotion of the nation’s documentary and cultural heritage.
