A Drop of Blood at the Slovak National Library

The library usually saves books, now they wanted to save lives. That is why the employees of the Slovak National Library decided to help and donate blood on 17 October 2025. Almost 30 volunteers, most of them library staff, took part in the “Drop of Blood at the SNL” campaign. Many of them donated blood for the first time.

Employees of the National Transfusion Service of the Slovak Republic conduct unusual mobile blood drives, but this was their first time at our library, and they believe it will not be their last. “We conduct mobile blood drives in various locations, but we have not been here before. There is never enough blood, so hopefully we will find new regular donors here,” said a doctor from the NTS of the Slovak Republic. Every book has its end, my drop of blood will give someone a new beginning – this is what many of the donors said before they sat down in the chair and offered the doctors their arm.

The Slovak National Library hosts around 70 different events for the public every year, but this time they swapped culture for health.
