Open Education Week at the National Library of the Republic of Moldova

To  aligh  to  the international event Open Education Week, coordinated by the Open Education Global forum, the National Library of the Republic of Moldova organized during 4-7 March 2024 a series of events.

Open Education Week at the National Library of the Republic of Moldova (NLRM) included:

  • Exhibition of publications “Library and Open Education: resources, platforms, practices”. The exhibition comprised publications from the specialized collections of the Library (about 45 books, periodical and continuous publications, documents for professional readings from National thematic repository MoldLIS and other open access platforms;
  • Online conference “Open Education Week: annual event with opportunities for libraries and librarians”. Content points: concept of Open Education; ways of achieving Open Education: Open educational resources, massive open online courses (MOOC), Open Educational practices; presentation of 6 types of Creative Commons Licenses. There were 54 participants from national, public, educational, specialized libraries taking part in the event (March 4, 2024).
  • Online conference “How librarians can communicate/promote professional achievements and learn experiences at the global level regarding Open Education on the platform https://oeweek.oeglobal.org/”. Content points: algorithm of logging and contributions of librarians to add on the portal  events organized by librarians within the Open Education Week; 54 participants from national, public, educational, specialized libraries (March 4, 2024).
  • Professional workshop “Professional readings through Open Educational resources. Open learning platforms and courses”. Content points: Open Educational resources for librarians MoldLIS, eLIS; online courses for librarians ClassCentral, Coursera and others; workshop intended for specialized staff from the National Library of the Republic of Moldova (March 5, 2024).
  • Online session “Open Education Global: valuable resource for skills development https://www.oeglobal.org/”. Content points: open practices reflected on the portal; possibilities to add events; presentation of NLRM events on the portal; 44 participants from national, public, educational, specialized libraries (March 5, 2024).
  • online professional training “Common human values: reflection and promotion through reading”; 68 participants from national, public, educational, specialized libraries, local public administration; (March 6, 2024).
  • online professional workshop “How we assign DOI (Digital Object Identifier) for digital publication: publishing in Zenodo”. Content points: why we assign DOI; Open Science knows no borders!; algorithm for logging and indexing the publication in Zenodo; 35 participants from national, public, educational, specialized libraries, local public administration (March 6, 2024).
  • online Gala of Trainers of NLRM-2023, 6th edition, “2023 Trainers of the Center for Continuing Professional Education in Library and Information Science within the NLRM: contributions for competence-based learning”. Content points: Center’s trainers of the year 2023; contributions to competence-based learning; Center’s success indicators; Laudatio for the trainers of the National Library of the Republic of Moldova; 45 participants from national, public, educational, specialized libraries, local public administration (March 7, 2024).

Impact indicators

  • Statistical indicators: there were 7 activities carried out during the Open Education Week, in which participated 270 trainees;
  • The trainees of the Open Education Week were staff from regional, national, educational public libraries (universities, schools/gymnasiums/high schools, colleges, centers of excellence), specialized, including specialists responsible for the activity of libraries within the local public administration;
  • Open Education Week focused on the development of library staff skills regarding three ways of achieving open education: open educational platforms, online learning platforms and open educational practices;
  • Dissemination of the ePortfolio of the Open Education Week (experts/trainers materials and other);
  • Promotion of the events (exhibitions, trainings, Trainers’ Gala) of the Open Education Week at the NLRM through the library website (www.bnrm.md), social networks: https://www.facebook.com/BibliotecaNationala/, https://www.facebook .com/centrul.de.formare.bnrm/ ;
  • Publication of information regarding Open Education Week events organized by NLRM on the Open Education Global portal.
