Participation and democracy are only possible when they are based on knowledge. The idea which prompted the creation of the “St Paul’s Church Library” is still relevant to us today. “Knowledge creates democracy” – in a new virtual exhibition marking the 175th anniversary of the Frankfurt Parliament, the German Museum of Books and Writing explores a unique collection of books: Library of the Frankfurt Parliament of 1848/49 (called “Reichsbibliothek“), which comprised 4,600 volumes. Today, that collection is preserved at the German National Library in Leipzig.
