In 2017 the National Library of Moldova celebrated 185 years of its foundation. After 25 years of independence (2016), Moldovan libraries still need support to integrate into the European libraries community and promote their values and standards. Moldovan librarians do not have enough experience of European libraries and experiences could help in the development and integration across the European countries.
Moldova’s national library hosted an international conference with five national libraries (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania and Ukraine) in order to share best practice enabling Moldova to integrate with the European library community.
The conference: ‘The development of collaboration of the European libraries in virtual space’, was held in Chisinau, Moldova on 1st November – 2nd November 2017.
Presentations were made by:
Director General, National Library of the Republic of Estonia
The conference offered an advantage to both the foreign speakers and the hosts in Moldova. Speaking on behalf of the speakers from Europe – we had a perfect opportunity to get an overview of the library system in Moldova.
Chief of Integrated Library Systems Service, National Library of Romania
Thank you and your team for all the effort made in organizing the conference, an event that gave me the opportunity to learn new things about modern services that can be offered by a nationally-ranked library in the virtual environment. It was a big opportunity for myself to know about “what’s happened in other national libraries”, because before attending this conference, I did not have any information about the national libraries from the participating countries.
