The Russian State Library (RSL) is the largest library in Russia as well as one of the largest libraries in the world. The Library’s collection exceeds 47 million items (about three million of them are particularly valuable and rare editions) and includes documents in 367 languages. The Library is listed in the State Code of most valuable objects of cultural heritage of the Peoples of the Russian Federation. Nearly a million people visit the Library annually with about 100,000 new reader passes issued every year. Our mission is to collect, preserve and provide access to a general collection of material objects for public use, reflecting the knowledge of humanity and primarily related to Russia and its national interests.
