The EKN Grant project consisted on organizing the international conference “Social resilience and stronger professional networks as preconditions for peace” (Chisinau, October 9-10, 2023) with the participants from the National Library of the Republic of Moldova, Germany, Ukraine, Republic of Lithuania, Republic of Latvia and Romania.
The Conference was held in a mixed format. There were 109 participants in total from which 85 were coming in person (35 librarians from the capital city Chisinau and from other cities of Moldova and 43 librarians from the National Library of the Republic of Moldova) and 24 were participating online.
There were 6 guest speakers from the library area in person (Lithuania – 3, Latvia – 2, Romania – 1) and 4 online international speakers (1- Germany, 3 – Ukraine, 1 – Romania). The National Library of the Republic of Moldova had 3 speakers. The Conference participants were greeted by the representatives of central authorities and international organizations.

Elena Pintilei, the General Director of the National Library of the Republic of Moldova (NLRM) delivered the opening speech, followed by Frank Scholze, the Chairperson of the Conference of European National Libraries (CENL) and Director General of the German National Library, who made the inaugural address through a recorded video. Welcoming speeches were made by Andrei Chistol, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova, Corina Ajder, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Moldova, Olga Timuruc, the director of the Electronic Government Agency, Angelina Zaporojan-Pargari, the Executive Director of Women’s Law Center, Stela Vasluian, the Director of Amici dei Bambini Moldova. The conference contunied with presentations by Elena Pintilei, Director General, NLRM, President of the Association of Librarians of the Republic of Moldova, Renaldas Gudauskas, prof. dr. , Director General, Martynas Mazvydas National Library of Lithuania, Ginta Zalcmane, Head of the Information Services and Interlibrary Loan Department, National Library of Latvia, Dragos Adrian Neagu, Manager of the “Panait Istrati” Brăila, County Library, President of the National Association of Libraries and
Librarians of Romania, Natalia Griu, Pedagogical worker, author of textbooks, expert on media and informational education, Republic of Moldova , Aidas Sinkevicius, Deputy Director General for Infrastructure, Martynas Mazvydas National Library of Lithuania, Janina Marcinkeviciene, Deputy Director General for Administration and Human Resources, Martynas Mazvydas National Library of Lithuania, Razvan Pop, Director of the Astra County Library, Sibiu, Romania (online), Džūlija Snikere, EU4Dialogue project manager, library sector specialist, National Library of Latvia.
The second day of the conference was contunuied by presentations of Lyubov Dubrovina, Director General, V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine (online), Elena Pintilei, Director General, NLRM, President of the Association of Librarians of the Republic of Moldova and Victoria Vasilica, Executive Director, Association of Librarians of the Republic of Moldova, Liudmyla Demianiuk, Acting Head, International Information and Foreign Relations Department, V. The participants of the conference build stronger relationships among them and developed their acknowledgement of the crucial role a library should take nowadays. The conference was a great possibility to discuss the library modern issues and to emphasise the role of the library networks in hard time of the transition.
